Star Wars – The High Republic: Temptation of the Force

The High Republic: Temptation of the Force book cover featuring main characters

High Republic, low expectations.

I wanted to love this – I really did. As a long-time Star Wars fan, I’m usually game for Jedi drama and galactic peril.

The audiobook starts off promisingly enough, but quickly descends into a chaotic blend of melodrama, cheesy Force-flirting, and inexplicably glam-rock aesthetics. Yes, someone decided metal music would make a great spaceship fire alarm. And yes, some characters genuinely feel like Sith-adjacent members of KISS – but with lightsabers.

Add in muddled action scenes that make no sense in audio form, and some characters way-too-gay just for the sake of it – and it all became a bore.

No idea why I stuck with it. Maybe the Force made me do it. Either way, not recommended.
